Christmas Photo Inspiration

Under the Mistletoe

Yep. It’s that time of the year again. I’ve already started listening to Christmas music and my Pinterest boards are filling up with everything related to Christmas. I know a lot of people are so against to celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving, but I like overlapping the holidays! I love Thanksgiving and Christmas, so can’t I celebrate them at the same time? And how come people are so hard core against it? I don’t understand.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas things right now:

Reindeer Fudge • Candy Cane Cookies • Cookie Exchange Night

More Cute Cookies • Awesome Gingerbread Houses • DIY on Canvas

I love glitter • DIY house luminaries • Glitter pears

Jingle Bell Decor • Vintage Printable • Hanging Bulbs

Cute graphics • Bulbs with Eva • Cards for Grandparents

3rd Annual Spooktacular

After organizing our church’s Halloween party, Relief Society October craft activity, going to the pumpkin walk, cleaning up a lot of pumpkin guts all month long, I was pretty tired by last weekend and told T.J. I was sick of Halloween and wished we could skip over our party. Just a word to the wise, don’t ever tell T.J. you don’t like Halloween, you’re sick of the holiday, or anything along those lines because he might take it personally. So, I tried to suck it up and put on a happy face for a couple more days so I could get through our annual Halloween party. But I made a deal with T.J. If he didn’t want me to have a complete mental breakdown, then I got to dress up in something easy and simple.

Thankfully, I came up with the idea to be Miranda Sings and T.J. decided to stay dressed as a steampunk villain (his department at work was assigned this costume).

I made a lot of my desserts the day before the actual party and tried to clean throughout the week, so on the actual day of the party, I wasn’t very stressed and got to enjoy the wonderful weather.

We had an incredible turnout. In the beginning, it was almost too crazy but then some people started going outside to the fire pit which helped to give us some more room.

As soon as everyone left, I put all of the decorations away. Enough is enough! But I decided maybe it’s good to do a holiday SO much that when it’s over, you’re not sad about it!

Pumpkin Walk

A couple weeks ago, T.J. and I saw a sign on the side of the road at a garden center advertising a pumpkin carving contest. We jokingly said that he should enter the contest, but then just kept talking about it because the first place winner won $250, 2nd place $175 and 3rd place $100. After carving several pumpkins through October, T.J. decided to go for it and enter one of his 3D creations. It looked awesome!

I turned it on Friday and on Saturday morning we got a call saying he had been awarded 3rd place. I thought that was awesome! I mean, $100 for just a couple hours of (fun) work! T.J. was disappointed at getting third place but was happy he got something and was thinking that the first place and runnerups must have been something amazing… so we headed to the pumpkin walk to see the competition!

First off, wow… if you haven’t been to a pumpkin walk, do it next year! It was so fun to see hundreds of pumpkins all lined up. There were so many creative ones. Owls, BYU logos, carousels, witches, horses, Winnie the Pooh–really incredible stuff!

Here’s T.J.’s pirate carving:

We were getting anxious to see what the 2nd and 1st places looked like. Then we saw this one… 2nd place. 2nd place? Really?

And to make things worse… this pumpkin won 1st place. Yes, I admit that it is creative. But as Job Bluth says, “COME ON!” Is it really worth $250? I don’t think so.

Anyway, we were kind of frustrated, but it was still a lot of fun and we’re glad T.J. at least entered and won!

Ward Halloween Party

This year, T.J. and I were in charge of our Halloween party at church. It was the first time I’ve been over an event so large, and so let’s just say it had quite a rocky and slow start. But in the end, a handful of people showed up, there was enough food, and I think everyone had fun socializing. Here are some photos (mostly of Eva…oops!):

Second Best Holiday of the Year

T.J. and I have finally decided on our Halloween costumes! I can’t wait to show you pictures and for you to figure out how it connects to Eva’s costume.

Gosh, I just love Halloween!

Halloween Traditions

This month is flying by, I can’t believe it will be Halloween in just a week and a half! We have been really busy, but we still have managed to get some Halloween decorations up, eat all things pumpkin, and do a couple other favorite spooky-themed things.

Last year there was a Groupon for a Halloween river “cruise.” For those of you not from Provo, the Provo river is more like a deep creek. It’s no Ohio or Mississippi river. And the “cruise” was not like the booze cruise episode of the office. Take out Michael Scott (the party-captain) and replace it with a pirate who pulls about twenty people on a little boat down the river using rope overhead. He tells stories like the Headless Horseman and then another pirate comes out to “scare” the kids and tell really terrible pirate jokes. On the banks of the river are hundreds of jack-o-lanterns and many decorative lights.

Honestly, most people probably would think it’s lame. But we’re kind of into those cheesy Halloween things so we soaked it up and jumped on the Groupon offer when it came out this year. Several Monday nights ago, we doubled with T.J.’s old roommate for round two.

I cannot get enough of Eva in that hat. And on the same fashion note, I also am loving that I can wear all my fall clothes this year! Last year at this time I had a baby bump the size of a pumpkin under my shirt.

Labor Day Weekend

Birthday dinner for T.J.’s mom. Aren’t these two so cute?

Trying out new recipes. Baked avocado fries. Delicious.

A Sunday walk with the grandparents.

City Creek Center in Salt Lake. Still obsessed with that mall.

Relaxing as a little family of three.

Having fun at the Mecklenburg’s Labor Day BBQ

Eva’s new boyfriend. She was very excited about it.

Can every week have a three-day weekend?

A Costume Birthday Party

While we were in DC, we celebrated my niece Amelia’s 2nd birthday. It was kind of impromptu, but it was so fun to celebrate together.

Claire loves dressing up so she decided it would be a dress-up party. She was a witch, Amelia was a ballerina, I was a princess, my mom wore a hat, and Mary Beth wore a tutu around her neck. I kept putting a witch hat on Eva, but she wasn’t much of a fan.

Happy Belated Birthday, Little Amelia!

4th of July

I spent this 4th of July in Fort Thomas, KY in my home town with my family. It was a scorcher but still so fun! In the morning, we went to the parade and the first part were the fire trucks. Not a great start to a parade from the view of a baby… Eva started screaming because they scared her so much. After I got her calmed down and the trucks passed, she did really well and loved watching all the little kids get the candy and see the floats go by.

The heat wore Eva out so she took a long afternoon nap, I took one too, and then we just kind of hung out around the house for the rest of the day. Very low key but so special to be home on a holiday with my parents again!

Next year, Eva will be running around trying to get the candy…. TIME NEEDS TO SLOW DOWN!
