Sun + Shopping

What more could I have asked for?

Typeface Snob

T.J. + Katie + Vegas = Out-of-Control Weekend

Okay, probs not because we’re Mormon. But it will be awesome. Tomorrow we’re hitting up the Neon Sign Graveyard with his graphic design buddies for a typography assignment. T.J.’s typography classes has us into font elitists. So that combined with shopping at Caesar’s Palace and a weekend full of sunny, warm weather–it will be a prime next few days.

We Cannot Turn Back

If you haven’t watched Martin Luther King, Junior’s “I Have a Dream” speech lately, watch it. It will really enlighten you. The literary devices of the speech are just incredible. Filled with allegories, allusions, and alliteration–this speech is truly inspired.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of “interposition” and “nullification” — one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; “and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.”

Christmas Break Wordle

Yankeeeee Swap

All of these posts are out of order, but who cares.

Before we go to Christmas Eve Mass, the Dorans and my family have a nice dinner and then play White Elephant.

It’s like Machiavelli meets… Christmas.

This year, Ramsey decided to reenact the 2nd season Christmas episode of The Office. He played Michael. The best part of the whole thing was that someone actually gave Christmas pot holders as their gift and Ramsey randomly picked that gift. Christmas miracle?

Catholic for one night a year

I’ve mentioned this on here before, but on Christmas Eve, my family and the Dorans (our old neighbors who are basically a part of the fam) go to a Catholic church in Cincinnati to hear my dad play the trumpet and my sister play the violin for the midnight Mass. I love this tradition because it puts the focus back onto our Savior and the Priest always has such a touching story to share with the congregation.

It was so special to share this specific evening with T.J. this year. I loved seeing him become a part of my family and so willingly participate in all of our family’s traditions. I’m so blessed to have such a kind (and cute… check out his skinny tie) husband!

Trains, Trains, Trains

One of my family’s Christmas traditions is to go downtown Cincinnati for the afternoon to see Santa and all of the other festivities, including the trains at the Duke Energy building. They’ve been doing this display for nearly a century, and we’ve gone since I can remember. It is one of the most magical parts of the season to me. They do almost as good of a job as Elf does in Gimbels.

Tannenbaum

For those of you who came to our place in December, you saw how our home because a Christmas tree forest. We had three Christmas trees in all. The first one was in our living room with white lights and my new cute Target ornaments, bought by our last Wedding gift-card. I kind of was in love with this tree. From the snow to my mom’s antique bird ornaments that she gave me this year (which are very special to our family), I wish we could have kept it up for longer.

The next tree, which I forgot to take a picture of before I took it down, was a miniature fiberoptic. It was super tacky. But I bought it last year for my apartment and couldn’t help to put it back up again. I put only two ornaments on the top of this tree. They were little angels–a girl and boy–straight from Mexico, which is where Blair brought them for me last year.

And lastly, the third tree was in our dining room. T.J.’s aunt gave us this tree, that’s why we have so many. We put up our personal ornaments that we had accumulated through the years. My Grandmother, Penny, gave me an ornament each year at Christmas, so it was fun to see all of them on our own tree. We also put up T.J.’s ornaments he got on his mission to Micronesia.

(Sidebar: It’s kind of embarrassing how chubby my cheeks were and how horrible my haircut was in this photo. But it calls for a good laugh, especially compared to T.J. normal sized head.)

Catching up

Everyday I’ve been thinking, “Wow, I really need to blog about this!” But I haven’t had much time, and I caught a cold, so I haven’t been in the mood to do too much.

My break has been great. I can’t believe it’s more than half over. The house is quiet. I’m riding solo, as my friend Jason Derulo would say. And the next semester starts in six days. But I’m actually anxious for it to begin because the sooner it starts, the sooner it ends. Forever.

I’ve got a lot of posts coming up, hopefully pictures coming soon. We’ve done a lot here in my ol’ Kentucky home and I still have to get caught up about our Christmas with my great in-laws.

But anyway. I hope YOU had a wonderful Christmas and that you have a fun New Years Eve. When you head out to your parties this weekend, remember what Nance (my mother) always says:

Remember who you are.

Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.
