I took these cute photos of Brooks and Eva on V-day! Aren’t they adorable?

photo-2A couple of you told me you want to see more outfit posts after posting the Sunday Best photos. Without further ado, here’s a post for ya!

The other day was relatively warm out, so I ditched my winter coat (probably a bad decision because 43 isn’t really warm) and wore my light, khaki jacket instead. I got that back in 2008 guys. 2008! And I’m still wearing it six years later. But I think it looks good still, so who cares?

I bought some bright pink lipstick a couple weeks ago and it’s officially my favorite makeup purchase ever. But I normally only buy Almay makeup from the grocery store, so I guess I don’t have much expertise!

Another piece to this ensemble is my necklace which is from The Limited… surprise, surprise! I got it on clearance with an additional 50% off in the store. Major score.

My pink collared top is a nice transition piece from Winter to Spring. It’s long sleeve, but the neon color brightens up a drag wool sweater. I’m a huge fan of Mindy Kaling and on her Instagram feed, she’s always buttoning the top button of her buttonups. T.J.’s been doing this for years, so I don’t know why it took me so long to try it out. But Mindy gave me the extra style motivation that I needed to give it a try! Thanks, Mindy… can we be best friends now?

And finally, my kicks. Back in the day, I worked on an advertising competition in college and it was for Diesel. My brother surprised me with these shoes since they were from Diesel — he wanted to support me and the project. Pretty awesome brother, right? (Wish I could work on a Michael Kors competition right now… maybe he’d send me some MK gear? 🙂 ) Anyway, I think they are a perfect pick for a a casual day in the city, when you are walking a lot but still want to look nice.

(#btoml=best time of my life)

A couple months ago, I read on a Jersey City blog post that B.J. Novak (Ryan from The Office) was coming to a bookstore a mile away from me to do a book signing for his new book. I marked it on my calendar and knew I had to be there. I tried not to get my hopes up. I didn’t want to think I’d meet him but then not even be able to step in the bookstore.

But I gave it a shot. My father-in-law was in town that night for business and so we picked a restaurant next door to the bookstore. I ate quickly and then snuck out to get in line. Within ten minutes I was next to meet B.J. and was about to have a heart attack. Danica can attest-I was texting her, all caps, saying, “OH MY GOSH WHAT SHOULD I SAY WHAT DO I DO!?!?!?!”

I was SO incredibly nervous/excited to meet him! I didn’t know what to say, so I kept it very brief. I had missed the Q&A since we were at dinner, so I didn’t want to ask him a question he had just answered. So, instead I just asked him to sign it as the Fire Guy (a joke from The Office), he laughed and said sure, then we took a picture together. Kind of lame story, but guys. It was amazing and I was/still am so start-struck!

Screen Shot 2014-02-16 at 7.02.14 PMNow, if I was that excited to meet B.J., can you imagine how excited I would be if I met Steve Carell? I’m pretty sure I was cry and pass out!

    • This week is going so fast. I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday… awesome!
    • It’s supposed to be 50 degrees and sunny on Saturday! I’ve got to think of something fun for us to do in the city so we can take advantage of the warmth! Maybe we’ll go to a splashpad… haha just kidding. After months of crazy weather, 50 really does feel like summer.
    • Have you guys been watching Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show this week? We love Jimmy SO much and are so excited for this new change, even though it’s pretty much the same as his old show… still neat. Seeing his show live here in NYC is on my bucket list before we move. Last night Jerry Seinfeld was on and it was HILARIOUS. You’ve got to watch it below!
    • After 7 straight days of Eva not napping, today she FINALLY took a nap. She’s been asleep for almost two hours… sweet bliss! Let’s hope this breaks the no-nap cycle! Eva is not ready to transition to no-nap/quiet time. She is high strung (wonder where she got that? 🙂 ) and needs the nap still to get through the day or else she has a major breakdown at night.
    • Another Eva note… for the past two days she has eaten SO much. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s awesome. It’s not like she’s eating more than a toddler should, but considering it’s a constant battle to get that girl to eat a normal meal or more than a couple bites of anything, this is a big deal! I’ve been praising her nonstop since she’s gotten this big appetite and doesn’t fight me at meal time. Who knows what’s going on but I hope it stays! I was actually worried she would throw up because she’s not used to eating so much at meals, but she hasn’t had problems yet!
    • Sometimes I watch those olympians and just think how it’s crazy what the human body is capable of. Isn’t it amazing? They have so much dedication and motivation – it’s inspiring. I teared up when Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the gold medal in ice dancing because they’re so incredible! Ahh… I’ve just loved the olympics this year!

We swapped babysitting for Valentine’s Day weekend, so T.J. and I got to have a date in the city together! It was so romantic to walk the streets of NYC on Valentine’s Day… even the Empire State Building was lit up with bright pink lights.

We got a quick bite at a tex-mex restaurant near T.J.’s work. It was absolutely delicious and we got there before the rush so we didn’t have to wait at all. Then we took the train up to 42nd St, walked through Bryant Park, Times Square, and saw Monuments Men at a movie theater up there. It had once been an Opera Theater, so the lobby is really neat!

It was such a great Valentine’s Day. Much better than last, when we were with a recovering RSV/Croup one-year-old. We love you all! Hope you had a great V-day!

With all the snow storms we’ve had these past couple of weeks, Eva and I have turned to baking/cooking in the kitchen. We just ate our sorrows away with lots of Valentine themed food.

Thank goodness I have this little helper to keep me in line! She LOVES eating dough/making a mess helping in the kitchen.

Last week I was so sick of being stuck in the apartment so T.J. and I took Eva into the city for lunch and for a museum visit. It was still pretty snowy outside, but it was so neat to see the city in snow!

Screen Shot 2014-02-16 at 7.02.39 PM Screen Shot 2014-02-16 at 7.02.31 PMOf course, you can’t go to the Natural History Museum without visiting Shake Shack next door.

When T.J. was getting Eva dressed this morning, he put her tights in between the layers of skirt, and so all that was left was the peplum part of the skirt. It looked like we dressed Eva in a mini skirt, keeping it really classy here in Jersey. But guys. Her peplum denim skirt… I got it on clearance back in the fall at Baby Gap and wished I could buy one for me (although I would not look as cute in it as this girl)!

I’m not wearing anything special, but I am a teensy bit obsessed with my necklace. I’ve been scoping out The Limited for a couple of months now and buying out all their clearance necklaces. They’ll be on clearance and every once in a while have an additional 50% off. When they’re that cheap, you have to buy it.

It was a good thing we took these pictures before church because mid-Sacrament meeting, Eva was stripped down to her undershirt and tights. It looked like she was wearing long johns at church. By the time we got home, her hair had come out of the pig tails, her mouth was a mess from all the food we bribed her with to sit in her stroller, she wasn’t wearing her skirt, and instantly wanted to change to her princess dress.

Hope you guys had a great Sunday. The weekend continues tomorrow… woo hoo!

My husband, T.J., is a very talented graphic designer here in NYC and we have partnered up by opening an Etsy shop together. We currently have six products for purchase. They are instant downloads to be used as wall decor.

We are very excited to share some of T.J.’s designs with you and hope you can spread the word for us! You can check it out here.

Last weekend, I did a little babysitting swap with my friend so T.J. and I could go out on a date and then she and her husband could have a night out as well. It worked out really well and so hopefully we can keep it up in the future! Free babysitting and a night out? The best.

The funny thing about NYC is that sometimes I get this mentality of Go Big or Go Home. I feel like when we have outings with Eva we really have to take advantage of the city and all it has to offer or we might as well just be back at home. But there’s SO much to do and so many places to eat that oftentimes I get overwhelmed! I want to try new things and restaurants, but spending money on a place I’m unsure about it always tricky. We also are on a budget, so even though we would love to go see a show every date night, it’s unrealistic for us right now.

So, after stressing out about where to eat and trying to find something awesome to do in the city, we decided to just keep it simple and go to my favorite taco place at Chelsea Market (to be fair, I haven’t tried too many other taco places in the city, but this one is really delicious!). After dinner, we walked around the market, got some treats, star-searched (last time we were there, Blake Lively was in front of me in line), and rummaged through a little sample store where T.J. let me buy a new button-up.

In the end, it was just good to go out and be a couple again. Being a mom is amazing but sometimes I forget I’m first and foremost a wife. It was nice to be with my hubby for some uninterrupted time!
