Your opinion?
So a couple of people have told me that I should watch some birth videos before I have this babe. Back in high school, I closed my eyes for the Miracle of Birth. Back then, I was so disturbed by the idea of all of this, I told my mom that I was never going to the “lady doctor” and if they forced me, I would want to be put to sleep before the doctor came in and wake up after he left. I finally got over that, and after having so many doctor’s appointments when you’re prego, it’s is not a big deal at all. BUT it still leaves me at the fact that I haven’t seen a birth before. I keep looking them up and almost watching them online but then chicken out.
What do you think? Do you think I should go deliver this baby knowing what is ahead of me and watch the videos? Or should I go in there blind? I’m thinking blind… ignorance is bliss, right?
Having a baby is a miracle and it is truly crazy awesome what your body can do. Whether you watch one or not, I would suggest reading a lot about it and what happens. Don’t be grossed out or disturbed – it’s a miracle.
Don’t do it! I saw one and was grossed out. And all the birthing videos I could find were natural births, so it looked WAY worse than it was. Having a baby wasn’t too bad and I’m glad I didn’t go in nervous about it. Ignorance is bliss.
Unless you are planning on going unmedicated, I wouldn’t recommend watching one. The videos tend to be unmedicated births and are way worse than they are when you have an epidural. Although, I had a c-section, so my experience was a bit different.
I do believe ignorance is bliss, however, you should take some kind of birthing class. We had to for the hospital we delivered at and it wasn’t that bad. They go through the different methods, explain what to expect for an epidural if you choose to get one (and if you don’t do the birthing classes before hand our hospital will make you watch a video while you are waiting to get your epidural and that will freak you out since you are already uncomfortable!!!) You need to work on breathing techniques (they really do work, I’ve always been able to put off the epidural until I’m 7 or 8 centimeters dilated because of breathing)and you need to be prepared for things like forceps and vacuum deliveries and emergency c-sections. While ignorance might be bliss, there are a lot of things that go on during labor and delivery that will make having some knowledge very beneficial. You really don’t want to go in blind!
