The Weekly Thought List

  • I had my 20 week ultrasound today. It was very exciting (and she’s still a girl… I had a dream that it was actually a boy, so it clears that one up). She has all her parts and is looking healthy. About one pound and I think her heartbeat was 154? Who knows. All I know was that it was normal, so that’s good. The only thing that was a little odd was when you look at the her face straight on, it turns into an alien skeletor. I’m not kidding. It was straight out of a horror movie. The ultrasound lady told me that that’s what it’s supposed to look like, but I said let’s just look at her profile from now on.
  • After making a dozen phone calls, talking to a bunch of people, and looking up a lot of stuff online, I finally got a straight answer about BYU’s health plan and their changes. Most importantly, I found out that there are exceptions to those terrible changes, and we are one of those exceptions!!! Because I have been on maternity coverage (cover 80%), they will continue covering that since my baby is due Fall semester. As soon as the lady told me that exception, I broke down in tears and told her how much I appreciated her taking the time to look up my specific case considering no one else would do it and they haven’t listed any of the changes online. So, that’s a HUGE load off of my shoulders. {And there’s another person who thinks I’m crazy for crying so much.}
  • I can’t wait for Pioneer Weekend! We are heading down south to St. George and Enterprise. It’s going to be hot, but it will be so fun to see all of T.J.’s family (he has hundreds of cousins… I only have two! So it’s a big change).
  • I have so many friends who are getting married/got married this summer. The next couple up is Danica and Ryan this weekend! I’m so excited for their sealing at the SLC Temple!
  • HarryPotterwasawesome.HarryPotterwasawesome.HarryPotterwasawesome.
  • My goal for the week is to keep my house clean and pick up after myself. If you ever were my roommate you probably think that that’s the usual for me, but since I’ve been married I’ve turned into a slob and it’s got even worse since I got pregnant. Anyway, day two and the house is still looking great. It feels so good to have a clean home to come home to.
  • Last night I was really really sick. Something horrible happened to my body, I probably should not say the details or else my mom will make me delete this bullet by the end of the afternoon. So, I’ll just tell you that I’m fine now, and thank goodness T.J. was not in the bathroom or else he would be scarred. Oh, the joys of being pregnant. At least I’m doing better now and I’m a little more prepared for the delivery, right? The funniest part of it now is that T.J. thought I was going into labor early and asked if I was dilating. What a concerned husband 🙂
  • I know I shouldn’t say this, but I am getting excited for the fall. Just thinking about getting to wear my scarves and boots and, I’d say my fall jackets but I guess they won’t fit anymore, hats… it’s going to be great. Plus, I won’t be in school. So double plus.
  • All the baby bedding that I like is for boys. Will you all judge me if I get baby bedding with dinosaurs? I don’t like the butterflies or the flowers. Oh, what to do what to do! All you moms out there, if you have any suggestions of where to look for bedding (or any more suggestions about strollers, high chairs, etc.) let me know! PLEASE!

K, seeyaloveyabye. I have to go to my World Religions class now. Taught by a Korean. I can’t understand a thing he says.

    I ran across your blog on FB I think… I also had some trouble picking bedding. We ended up picking something gender neutral from Target. I actually love it and plan on using it for future kids (although I know if I had a girl, I’d want to do ruffles and frills!). The thing with bedding is you don’t actually need much. They make you think you do, but you really don’t. Bumpers aren’t “kosher” anymore (although I LOVE our breatheable bumper… you get the look of a bumper, but you don’t have to worry about the suffocation risk). Quilts are fun and cute to have, and then you just need sheets. So, I say mix and match and make it how you want it! Start with a quilt and go from there.

    As for other baby things… I’d say the stroller/car seat is a big one. I HIGHLY recommend the Chicco KeyFit 30 travel system. We absolutely love it and it was my favorite purchase.

    I’m trying to think what else… Oh, I’d totally recommend a front pack/carrier of some sort if you want to be hands free. It’s nice and they sleep a lot in it when they’re little (giving you two hands) and I loved taking Ethan on walks with it when he was bigger. I bought the Snugli (It’s like the Bjorn style, but way cheaper) on Amazon.

    Good luck! The things babies need really come together. You learn as you go 🙂

    What happened to the health plan? I bet whatever it was, it was probably scary…

    It’s funny that you say you’re attracted to baby boy stuff, because I kinda felt that way too! I realized I also have been picking out gender neutral stuff, which is good because we certainly will be having more kids. We got a travel system in a really cute blue/green print that it still kinda girly, but could totally work with a boy too if that time comes. We looked high and low for the best priced system, and we like the one we got. It’s the Graco Alano Flip-it and the carseat that comes with it. Although, now that we had to buy a bigger convertible carseat (since our kid is so huge she grew out of her infant seat), I’ve wondered if getting the rear/forward facing seats from the beginning might have been better (some go as low as 5 lbs. and go up to 65 lbs.), but ultimately, it super nice to have the infant seat in the base in the car and just click it in, and click it out without having to grab the baby out of the seat. Sleeping baby=happy mommy. 🙂

    And just a note on crib bumpers: I like them. When the baby’s the age that SIDS is a concern, they don’t really roll over. So you put them in the middle of the crib, and they pretty much stay there, never getting near the bumpers. I like them because when they get to the age of sitting up/standing up and they fall backwards, the bumpers keep them from busting their heads open on the slats of the crib. That’s from personal experience too…. 🙁
