Isn’t this a breakthrough, that I’m a {quilter}? I {quilt}? I {quilt} now?

The title of my blog really makes me want to watch What About Bob.

Normal Katie + Pinterest = Super Housewife

Or at least, that’s how I feel right now because I made a quilt this weekend. Well, started a quilt. I finished bought the material on Thursday night, cut and pinned it on Friday, sewed the top on Saturday. Tonight I plan on buying the rest of the materials and finishing it up by Wednesday.

I was going to give you my step-by-step direction, but I kind of started improvising and making it up as I got farther, so you should probably just look on someone else’s blog for real directions.

I am thrilled with the results. I haven’t used a sewing machine since tenth grade, so I’m pretty proud of what I have done. I also have learned a lot to help me for the next quilting project. For example, just because the colors look good together doesn’t mean it will make a great patterned quilt. You have to remember the value of the colors, you know… how dark and how light they are and if they will balance each other out. I wish I would have selected one pink that was softer or included more white, but by the time I was laying out the quilt, I just was too excited to go back steps and had to continue.

Also, I learned that quilting really isn’t that hard. You just have to make sure you take your time (which is really hard for me to do). I don’t have any quilting tools, but I definitely could not have made it without T.J.’s ruler with the square edge or the long pins with the big heads (I dropped the box of pins twice, so I’m glad I bought the pins I did).

And just a heads up on the photos: They were taken with my phone, so they’re not wonderful and the color is kind of off. Also, the white border will only be three inches when finished.

It is adorable! I’m so impressed! I’ve only ever sewn a miniature doll quilt and it was tough to get the squares matched up. You are amazing! Cute fabric too!
