A Room Divider

So, as I’ve mentioned before, we have a one bedroom apartment out here. Since we want to live close to the Subway, it’s too pricey for us to have a two-bedroom. But we didn’t think it would be an issue. When we first moved in, we planned on putting Eva’s crib in the walk-in closet. After a couple hours, we realized that was not realistic. We need access to the whole closet, so we didn’t want Eva’s portacrib in there all the time.

Next, we thought, well… we can all sleep in the same room together. We tried it for one night. ONE. I hated it. I was so nervous I was going to wake her up. Plus, in the morning, TJ’s alarm woke Eva up too. I am not a fan of getting up earlier than I need to be, so we moved our bed out to the main room immediately.

At first I hated it, it looked so strange. I wasn’t used to this whole city living thing. But I soon got used to it, and it made me feel better when I realized a lot of people do the same thing out here. Although I stopped caring about having the bed in the main room, I still have been searching for months on how to divide the large room. I didn’t want to do a curtain, nor did I like the look of one of those Chinese room dividers. Then I saw the idea of a shelving unit from IKEA being used as a divider! Perfect!

They unfortunately stopped making the 5×5 version of the bookcase we bought-the biggest one is 4×4. But it was nice not to fork out as much for the divider, and it’s currently on family pricing… which saved us an additional twenty bucks!

We still need to fill it up with more books and decorations so it’s not as see through, but we really like how it looks! I had wanted it to go to the wall, but by doing so, Eva wouldn’t be able to access two of the bottom cubbies of toys. We put a little DVD storage table next to it instead.

Can you spy Eva?
