Saturday in the City

On Saturday, we woke up to lots of rain so T.J. stayed home with Eva all day long while Hannah and I explored the city. What a sweet husband!

After getting Hannah some new shoes at the mall that would work in the rain, we went to Hamilton’s Soda Fountain Shop in Greenwich Village for lunch. I’ve been wanting to go there for months but because there’s no Path subway elevator nearby, I haven’t gotten to go with Eva. It was just as I had imagined it and was so darling inside. Delicious drinks and great atmosphere.

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 8.30.37 PMNext, we took the train up to 5th Ave. Hannah had never been to Uniqlo so of course I had to bring there! I also got some sweats I’ve been eyeballing for quite some time!

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 8.30.45 PMNext, we entered the lottery for Aladdin. We REALLY thought we were going to win, but no such luck. So disappointing. Here we are waiting for the lottery… this was a BEFORE shot, obviously. Afterwards we looked like George Michael walking to the Charlie Brown tune:

We had Pie Face for dinner then ended the night watching Guardians of the Galaxy in Times Square. I hadn’t seen the movie yet and it was still showing at the AMC there. I’m officially obsessed with the movie! I laughed SO hard throughout the entire show. So good. Hannah and I also got kind of loopy during the show from all the Diet Coke after a long day, and couldn’t stop laughing at one point… I almost had to leave the theater to get control of myself! Ha… it makes me start laughing just to think about it. Best friends are the best, amiright?

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 8.30.55 PMThanks so much for coming, dear Hannah! We love you so much and always have a great time with you. Eva keeps referring to the futon as your bed, so you better come back again!

Halloween in NYC

Hannah and I had a fabulous time on Halloween. Since she visited us last year, we didn’t need to see all of the sight seeing stops. We also did not exactly stick to our Halloween plan. We crossed Alice’s Tea Cup off the to-do list and added Chipotle because we thought we could get a cheap burrito if we dressed up. So, Hannah put on the dwarf beard and hat and got in line. When she got up to pay, she saw the sign that said the burrito discount only applied AFTER 5 pm. Oops. Embarrassed, she pulled off the costume and forked over the full amount. Stupid Chipotle.

Next stop was Levain Bakery. I gave Hannah my card and had her get in line for us since I couldn’t get in the bakery with the stroller. She made conversation with the man in front of her who was a local. When she went to pay for the five cookies (which are $4 each, $20 total… and yes they definitely ARE worth the four bucks per cookie), she gave the cashier my card and it wouldn’t work. Turns out, I gave her my JCPenney card. Everyone probably thought, “Oh, poor Texan girl doesn’t know how to pay with a credit card!” Haha! Anyway, she was about to pull our her own card when the man she had talked to in line said, “Here… it’s on me!” Uhmmm…. THANK YOU! Best treat ever!

Next stop was the park which is where Ashley met up with us. We were very close to Bethesda Fountain, which I had never been to but have always wanted to see since it’s in one of my favorite movies: Home Alone. Also, Enchanted… and a million other movies. The weather was perfect, the trees were beautiful, we felt like we were in a movie ourselves!

We thought we’d take the long way out of the park to end up at the Natural History Museum, but somehow we got reallllly turned around without knowing and ended up on the Upper East Side instead. I was so embarrassed! I couldn’t believe I got us so turned around in there… but to my defense, we weren’t on the main path, we were back on little trails. Anyway, after another long walk across the park, we got back to the West side. By that time it was already 5 and so we decided to skip the museum trick or treating and go down some of the streets instead, one of which was closed off to traffic. I’m very glad we did that! It was SO fun! All of the lobbies and brownstones were decked out in Halloween decorations and it wasn’t terribly busy. We had a great time and at one point I almost started crying thinking about how wonderful it was. I loved going trick or treating as a kid and just couldn’t believe I was now sharing that experience with my own daughter and in New York City of all places.

Screen Shot 2014-11-04 at 9.39.52 AMFor dinner, we went downtown to Brookfield. It wasn’t crowded at all and was perfect for families and big groups… so if you’re in NYC next Halloween, go there! Go there any time of the year too obviously, I’m obsessed.

Another Halloween for the win!

Weekday Happenings

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 8.06.50 PM

We threw a birthday party for Susan over at Ashley’s theater room. The little kids looked so cute sitting in their big recliners watching the show!

Ashley and I can’t stay away from the city since we have had so many beautiful fall days!

Eva insisted on getting pretzel bread from Trader Joe’s last week. It was too funny not to take a picture of her eating it. Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 8.08.23 PM

My next door neighbor who is from India gave me food for the Indian Festival Diwali. Wasn’t that the sweetest thing?

Another day in the city! We went to Washington Square Park and I told Eva that she could throw a coin in the fountain to make a wish. She said, “Mom, that’s not a wishing well!!!”

Another afternoon in the city we went to Bryant park. We wanted to have a picnic on the lawn, but when we arrived we saw the lawn was already turned into the ice rink and winter shops. So crazy!

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 8.06.35 PMWe went on the carousel at the park though which made up for the fact the lawn was gone.

A year ago, Eva wasn’t sitting in her stroller and so we didn’t get to enjoy the fall weather in the city. Now that she sits in the stroller without any problems, I’ve been making sure I make each day count while the weather is still warm! I love this NYC!

I {heart} NYC

I love this so much. And yes, I have one walking speed now and it’s ridiculously fast, dangerously fast when I have the stroller and you’re in the way. I can’t help it! T.J. is always telling me to slow down, but I DO NOT KNOW HOW!

Happy Halloween!

I hope you have a wonderful day! We are all off celebrating Halloween in the city today. I’m taking Hannah and Eva to Alice’s Tea Cup for lunch, then trick or treating at the Natural History Museum, and maybe even the NYC Halloween Parade if we have energy!

Remembering September 11

Upper West Side

We had a mild summer, but on the 6th of September, we had a really hot and humid day. I wanted to get out and go into the city because the weekend before we were stuck inside. So, we decided to go up to the Natural History Museum again. It was quite a hot trek up there, but as usual, such a fun time. Afterwards, we ended the day getting cookies at Levain Bakery for the first time. That place smelled like heaven. No joke. Amazing. And the cookies… sooooo good! Put it on your list to try next time you’re in the city.

Fridays at Rockefeller Park

Two weeks in a row, we went downtown to our favorite little part of the city. After picking up lunch at Brookfield Place, we had a picnic down at the river. Not to sound overly cheesy, but I’m pretty sure those two Fridays will be marked down as some of the best times of my life with my sweet little Evabug. Good food, great views, perfect company.
