Good Night

“I like to torture them.”

  1. Our crib arrived today! Thanks to my in-laws for the amazing gift and for setting it up! I will show pics once the nursery is complete.
  2. I’m in a very crafty mood. Now if I just felt good enough to do something… Stupid cold!
  3. Julie and Julia was just on. Do you love that movie as much as me? It’s one of my all-time favorites.
  4. I ate a spinach salad for dinner. Maybe that doesn’t seem like anything to share, but I kind of feel like I should get a round of applause for it… Yes… Thank you!
  5. I set up the baby swing tonight! It’s adorable… plus, I paid for it through gift cards, so that’s even more awesome.
  6. Have you ever tried to listen to the Book of Mormon while you follow along? One word, four syllables: incredible. I highly recommend it. Download it here.
  7. I badly need a haircut. I’ve worn my hair up with a headband so much lately… that’s when you know it’s really time.
  8. We get our car back tomorrow. Did I tell you someone hit us in a parking lot on campus? Well, the car’s been in the shop since last Monday and so we’ve had a rental. It’s a Hyundai Tuscon. I’m seriously in love with it, except for the fact it guzzles gas! But, I will be sad to turn it back in tomorrow.
  9. I think we have decided on a baby name. But you will just have to wait and find out when she comes…
  10. In correspondence with the title, we watched Ghostbusters this weekend and I thought I’d share one of my favorite parts with you.

Weekly Thought List

  • It’s been a while since I’ve done this but it’s time to start back up again.
  • When we got home last night, it was a little cooler and it felt AMAZING! I hate to wish away the summer, but being in the heat when you’re pregnant is certainly no fun.
  • We drove about 1200 miles in two days and I realized that, out of all the cities we drove through, I would only want to live in four of those. McKinney, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Provo. Alright… maybe I could live in some of those ski tows in the mountains that were gorgeous (and probably cost a fortune to live in). But that’s it.
  • Root Beer is better than Diet Coke. Plus no caffeine which is a plus.
  • I had a dream last night that I went into labor at 38 weeks (9 weeks away!!!) and the baby turned out to be a boy. I was so annoyed at my ultrasound technician and kept asking her why she told us it was a girl… I was going to have to bring my baby boy home in a dress! Weird.
  • My new favorite breed of dog is a Golden-Doodle. T.J. thinks it’s the ugliest thing he’s ever seen, but I think they’re adorable! They’re fluffy, the name is funny (a huge factor), they are big dogs, great with kids, the one below will shake your hand and put his head on your leg. #1 reason: they don’t shed! Sign me up for one, please.  (The one below is named Charlie, which was the same name of my dog growing up, so that also may be another reason I’m in love with him! Look at his cute eyes and fluffy fur!)

  • I haven’t had any sciatic nerve pain since Wednesday. I’ve been watching my posture, which I think has helped. Oh, please tell me it was just a phase…
  • I forgot that my belly is still growing. I was kind of under an impression that when it got big a couple weeks ago, it would stay at that level of hugeness. But no, it still has forever to go and that makes me absolutely miserable thinking about. Get this baby out of me!!! I feel like a whale!
  • I finished the second Hunger Games book and am half way through The Help. Maybe I cheated a bit and listened to The Help as an audiobook, but it still counts as “reading a book” right? The second Hunger Games book was incredible and so intense! I hear the third one’s ending is a bit of a let down, but I’m still excited to finish the series. And then The Help is SO good, but so sad at times. It’s crazy that it was just fifty years ago when all of it was happening. Bizarre.

Not really in the mood to blog, but here I am anyway.

  • My belly button is starting to pop out. Starting to. It’s not an outie yet (thank goodness), but I’m sure one of these days it will be. It’s really bizarre. Pregnancy is really bizarre. Seriously, lately I have felt like I’m living an episode of the X-Files with something inside of me and growing every single day. Very weird, guys. And sometimes kind of gross. Just laying it out flat for you all.
    • (Disclaimer: Pregnancy is also wonderful, so don’t think it’s all disgusting and decide you don’t ever want kids because of the things I say.)
  • I am constantly hungry, although I’m not ever really sure what I want. I’m sure it’s driving T.J. crazy.
  • I finally joined Pinterest. Find me on there, please, so we can follow each other.
  • All I want to do is “nest”, but I don’t have the tools or money to do so. Does anyone have any cute, cheap ideas for me to make in preparation of the baby?
  • We haven’t been to 7 Peaks since the 4th of July Weekend! The weather better start cooperating with our schedules!
  • The new X-Men movie is at the dollar theater… I am so excited to see it!
  • My mom left me a voicemail yesterday. The good kind. About how she was proud of me, not to tell me to take something off of my blog. Made me cry and I made T.J. listen to it. Loved it.

The Weekly Thought List

  • I had my 20 week ultrasound today. It was very exciting (and she’s still a girl… I had a dream that it was actually a boy, so it clears that one up). She has all her parts and is looking healthy. About one pound and I think her heartbeat was 154? Who knows. All I know was that it was normal, so that’s good. The only thing that was a little odd was when you look at the her face straight on, it turns into an alien skeletor. I’m not kidding. It was straight out of a horror movie. The ultrasound lady told me that that’s what it’s supposed to look like, but I said let’s just look at her profile from now on.
  • After making a dozen phone calls, talking to a bunch of people, and looking up a lot of stuff online, I finally got a straight answer about BYU’s health plan and their changes. Most importantly, I found out that there are exceptions to those terrible changes, and we are one of those exceptions!!! Because I have been on maternity coverage (cover 80%), they will continue covering that since my baby is due Fall semester. As soon as the lady told me that exception, I broke down in tears and told her how much I appreciated her taking the time to look up my specific case considering no one else would do it and they haven’t listed any of the changes online. So, that’s a HUGE load off of my shoulders. {And there’s another person who thinks I’m crazy for crying so much.}
  • I can’t wait for Pioneer Weekend! We are heading down south to St. George and Enterprise. It’s going to be hot, but it will be so fun to see all of T.J.’s family (he has hundreds of cousins… I only have two! So it’s a big change).
  • I have so many friends who are getting married/got married this summer. The next couple up is Danica and Ryan this weekend! I’m so excited for their sealing at the SLC Temple!
  • HarryPotterwasawesome.HarryPotterwasawesome.HarryPotterwasawesome.
  • My goal for the week is to keep my house clean and pick up after myself. If you ever were my roommate you probably think that that’s the usual for me, but since I’ve been married I’ve turned into a slob and it’s got even worse since I got pregnant. Anyway, day two and the house is still looking great. It feels so good to have a clean home to come home to.
  • Last night I was really really sick. Something horrible happened to my body, I probably should not say the details or else my mom will make me delete this bullet by the end of the afternoon. So, I’ll just tell you that I’m fine now, and thank goodness T.J. was not in the bathroom or else he would be scarred. Oh, the joys of being pregnant. At least I’m doing better now and I’m a little more prepared for the delivery, right? The funniest part of it now is that T.J. thought I was going into labor early and asked if I was dilating. What a concerned husband 🙂
  • I know I shouldn’t say this, but I am getting excited for the fall. Just thinking about getting to wear my scarves and boots and, I’d say my fall jackets but I guess they won’t fit anymore, hats… it’s going to be great. Plus, I won’t be in school. So double plus.
  • All the baby bedding that I like is for boys. Will you all judge me if I get baby bedding with dinosaurs? I don’t like the butterflies or the flowers. Oh, what to do what to do! All you moms out there, if you have any suggestions of where to look for bedding (or any more suggestions about strollers, high chairs, etc.) let me know! PLEASE!

K, seeyaloveyabye. I have to go to my World Religions class now. Taught by a Korean. I can’t understand a thing he says.

Outa Control

The baby is out of control. She is kicking and moving so much (especially in the morning and late at night). I love it. I really do. It’s so great to finally feel her and know everything is alright. But the constant movement and kicking is making me feel nauseous! All that movement down there, it’s just strange… Will I get used it?

While I’ve got you, I want to hear your opinions on this video. I’m sure you’ve seen the photos before, they went viral a little ways back. My opinion: I think they’re kind of cute and definitely creative, but overall they kind of creep me out. Thoughts?

The Happiest Flower

  1. Come on, back aches! Lay off! I can’t sit for more than an hour without their lovely little pains distracting me. I didn’t sign up for this! Well, I guess I did when I decided to have a baby, but I didn’t know that this was in store for me.
  2. Why couldn’t Harry Potter have come out next week? As in, after our next pay day? I don’t think we will be seeing it at midnight, which is heart-breaking.
  3. Uhm, I don’t want to wait 20 more weeks until I have this baby! It’s not that I’m sick of being pregnant, I love it, I really do. I just want to meet my little baby! She’s all I think about, day and night. I read a birth story this morning and cried the entire time (yeah, I’m very emotional) because I was so excited for our big day. December 1st is wayyyyyy too far away (although, Hobby Lobby does already have their Christmas stuff out), I just want to move all of this along.
  4. Talking about the baby, she is getting so big! Seriously, my belly is starting to grow exponentially. Her legs and arms are finally proportional (no more alien baby) and she can hear outside sounds. She is kicking and moving, especially late at night, and she loves sour treats. Well, at least that’s how I’m explaining my sour treat cravings.
  5. My coworkers found a blog called E Tells Tales. It was her birth story that I read this morning, I love her blogging writer style (it kind of feels like reading a novel), but there is something unique/unusual about her relationship. I won’t tell you what it is, I want you to find out for yourself. It might creep you out a bit, but it made me want to read post after post after post.
  6. I played Uno with my in-laws last night. The rules were quite strange, you could match cards even if it wasn’t your turn, which made it a confusing mess. But it was still hilarious, oh and btw, I dominated.
  7. Hannah Judd is finally back from her little weekend trip (well, she’s back to her place in Mexico), so I finally get to talk to her. Exciting news of the day.
  8. One of my coworkers got married this weekend. Check out her blog to see some bridal photos, they’re a darling couple.
  9. I helped plan our ward activity last Saturday. It was a cookout up in the canyon and a complete success. We had at least fifty people show up, enough food (who knew it was so hard to figure out how many hamburgers to buy?), and the weather held up for us.
  10. I made some delicious tuna sandwiches yesterday, get ready for that recipe!

What irritates me:

Have you noticed how most everyone is proud of the places/cities/states where they grew up? They think it was the best place ever and that their hometown is better than your hometown. That may be true, no way of knowing. And I know there are some amazing places out there, but Utah is one of them too! Ever since I have moved out here, everyone at school has bashed on Provo, “The Bubble”, and Utah in general. I used to join along, but then I actually started getting out and doing things, and realized Utah is actually awesome. And Provo isn’t bad either.

Why?

Let’s start with Utah in general.

It’s absolutely gorgeous.

The mountains are beautiful. Driving through the canyon is always remarkable. The streams and waterfalls are endless. The wildlife is incredible. The blue skies against the rocky mountains never cease to amaze me.

There’s a variety of landscapes.

We’ve got the rocky mountains, the plains, the salt flats, the lakes, the red rocks, the forests. There’s a reason why so many films are made in Utah, you can’t find all of this so close everywhere!

So much to do!

Outside, you can ski, snowboard, hike, mountain bike, go to a rodeo, canoe/kayak, fish, boat, the list seriously is endless as are the places in Utah to do all those things. Inside, there are museums, concerts, restaurants, and shows.

Moving on to Provo.

Granted if you are not LDS, this would be a strange place to live. But it’s a college town, and the college happens to be the #1 cold stone sober college in the Country. But isn’t that why you wanted to go to BYU? I know I wanted to enjoy a few years in a place where I could be around people with similar beliefs and standards so I could survive some of the hardest years ahead of me. So, let’s just get the “boring” description of Provo out of the way, because the only reason people call Provo is boring is because we are just lacking the crazy parties with all the drinking. And if you call Provo “boring” because you think there’s nothing to do, then maybe you should get out of your apartment and start being proactive.

We have concerts, hiking/biking trails, clean entertainment, a dollar movie theater, lots of restaurants plus a variety of interesting spots on Center street, a campus full of free/cheap activities including an International Cinema that plays great movies every week, bowling allies, lots of places to grab some dessert, malls, parks, monuments, tandem bike rentals, a lake with a boardwalk, crazy mormon dance parties, a temple, festivals, and farmers’ markets.

There’s a lot to do here, and yes, Provo is unique, but stop saying there’s nothing to do in Utah! You don’t have to love it as much as the place you grew up in, but give it some credit! Anyone with me?

It feels good to finally get all that out!

Now, enjoy these photos of some of my favorite times in Utah!

Elephant in the Room

Well, well, well. It looks like I finally dared myself to write a post. This month has been a bit ridiculous. Lots of changes. Lots of stuff going on. And I’m just tired.

Here are some updates:

  • I quit the new job. For more reasons than one. And that’s all we will say about that. So, here I am, back in the library.
  • To work on campus this summer, I had to extend my graduation. Although I walked in graduation last week, I don’t technically graduate until August and I’m taking several credits during Summer term to be able to qualify for insurance and my job.
  • I’ve completely stopped drinking Diet Coke.
  • For the first time ever, I finished a whole bunch of bananas before they went bad. The trick is to make a lot of smoothies.
  • I bought a nice bread maker from my friend who didn’t have room for it.
  • I’m going home in two weeks for my brother’s wedding. Hopefully I can last until then! I’m really aching for a vacation.
  • After writing this post, I finally got excited to blog again! Yay! Silver Linings is back in action!
